Ekipa Jewellery & Art

Ekipa Art is a Windhoek based jewellery and art gallery. Ekipa is an Owambo word describing something valued and treasured, and refers to collectible, old ivory buttons worn by Owambo women in northern Namibia.  Grit Böttcher, the founder and creative director at Ekipa Art named the studio in 2001 because it symbolized what she was about to create:  Something that was to be valued and treasured by her clients and all that encountered her creations.

Grit Böttcher’s love for wildlife, horses, the outdoors and Namibian nature, is reflected in their jewellery, artwork and accessories. The Ekipa Art workshop produces art prints, accessories, and jewellery using natural materials. If you’re into silver, brushed aluminium, ostrich eggshells, ethically sourced game fur, up-cycled materials and horns salvaged from nature, this is your first stop.

This ever-giving studio and workshop is located on the landing at the Namibia Craft Centre, On Tal Street in Windhoek. The bright, vivid colours of their merchandise evoke an unconventional and emotional welcome. Every item displayed or purchased from Ekipa Art is beautiful and it creates an enjoyable long-term experience for the wearer, fashionista, or art collector.

Grit Böttcher and her co-creators at Ekipa Art employ a very visual and bold approach as well as a minimalistic but classic, functional approach to their designs. Their superior craftsmanship creates beauty out of a simple shape such as square or single piece of springbok skin.

Earlier in her career, Grit Böttcher figured out that product design was the first- and most-time consuming part of the production process. She devised a way to plan every step to the finest detail to streamline the process in order to produce a variety of products.

With usually over a hundred hand made items to choose from their collection, we’re all spoilt for choice and availability of something truly Namibian. You can be sure that whatever you choose is sometimes funky and always stylish.
